So, today's post is actually very important.  It's about pets and cancer.  If any of you have had to make the hard decision to put a pet down, you know the pain of losing a best friend.  My family and I have had two dogs that we loved very much be put down because we recognized the signs too late.  So whether your pet is sick, healthy, or just not themselves, I would still take a look at the article I have linked below.  And give your dog or cat an extra hug or treat tonight.

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Good afternoon everyone, I hope those of you in the Midwest are staying safe by staying indoors, away from the snow.  Last night, I found this article on Yahoo News about food stamps for pets.  Even though the article mentions that this service is only available in New York, maybe this article will inspire others to help families and pets that are in need.  Take a look below!

Sunday, February 24, 2013

I am happy to report that Otis, a Yorkie mix that my family has fostered for a little less than a week, has found his forever home! It is such a wonderful feeling knowing that he is not far away, and that his new family loves him very much already. There is nothing that compares to the feeling that you are helping an animal find a second chance.

Thursday, February 21, 2013

So, you have finished your obedience classes, your pet is acting perfectly, and you think you have no more work ahead of you? Wrong! What I've learned from my Yorkie is that you should never take good behaviors for granted.  Teddy always surprises me by doing a good behavior when I'm not expecting him to.  Also, if you want your pet to be relaxed and social, take a drive to the dog park for a little bit, or have family and friends come over to your home.

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Hello everyone, I know that it has been a while, but I have good news! My family is fostering a new Yorkie.  His name is Otis and we have only had him for a few days.  He is definitely a people person, and is just waiting for someone to give him a loving home.  So if anyone in the Chicago land area is interested in meeting this lovable Yorkie, please contact me at pittpattpaws@gmail.com

Hello everyone.  If you have ever heard of the The Best Friends Animal Society, I highly suggest going on to the website and taking a look around.  The Best Friends Animal Society is the nations largest no kill animal sanctuary, and I had the good fortune to volunteer there for a couple days a few years ago.  The passion and dedication the volunteers and trainers have is inspiring, as they help find forever homes for the animals that reside there.

The Westminster Kennel Club 137th Annual All Breed Dog Show is here!  This is a two day event, and the longest running sporting event in U.S. history besides the Kentucky Derby.  This year, there are two new breeds added to the mix of the competing 187 breeds.  The winning breed with be announced tonight at 8 p.m., on USA network, so tune in! From a Yahoo news article, check it out below.

The Russell terrier, also referred to as the Jack Russell terrier, is different from the AKC and UKC Parson Russell terrier. What sets this breed apart is its physical features (such as its small size and compressible chest), which allow for underground hunting and for maneuvering around tight turns and through precarious tunnels.

The treeing Walker coonhound was also bred to track woodland animals -- treeing raccoons and opossums, in this case. With their tirelessness, top-notch sniffer, dedication to task, and treeing ability, these hounds are amazing at what they do. Not to mention that they're swift, courageous, and friendly. They also have a buglelike howl, which changes when they arrive at the tree they're seeking. Treeing Walkers are descendants of the Walker, Virginia, and English foxhounds, but they look most similar to the Walker in color and build.

Hello fellow pet lovers! It's that time of the year again when we must be careful with ice and snow.  It is best that you salt your driveways and walkways with salt that does not hurt your pets paws, which can be found at any pet supplies store.

Found this on a website called Country Waggin' Resort and Grooming today. Anyone who has a big or over excited dog will agree!

A Dog's Guide:

Leash: A strap that attaches to your collar, enabling you to lead your owner where you want him or her to go. Make sure that you are waiting patiently with leash in mouth when your owner comes home from work. This immediately makes your owner feel guilty and the walk is lengthened by a good 10 minutes.

Found this quote from Robert Caras today and thought it was worth posting.

“Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made.”
