Dogs who end up in shelters come from all sorts of situations, but Mickey is special. Mickey's esophagus doesn't contract so that he can get food and water down, making it very difficult for him to eat and keeping him at a dangerously low weight. You may remember hearing a story about a dog and his bucket a couple months ago? If not, a dog named Slim was photographed in a shelter carrying around a metal bucket, one of the few toys he hadn't ruined while in his kennel. After his photo went viral, he was taken to a rescue facility and then taken in by a foster family.

After some training and much needed love from his foster family, Slim is finally ready to be adopted! If you are interested in adding Slim to you home, you can go to http://forgetmenotanimalrescue.weebly.com/adopt-or-foster.html. Just make sure you have room for the bucket, too. So, anyone heard of the, "saddest dog in the world?" If not, her name is Lana and her photo went viral after she was surrendered to a Canadian rescue after she snapped at one of her former owner's children. She truly looks very depressed, but it's looking up for Lana. She has been placed in a foster home, while waiting for her forever home and seems much happier.

Although it's wonderful to hear that Lana is doing better, it is also important to keep in mind that there are millions of pets waiting in shelters around the country who feel just like Lana did, confused, depressed and alone. So please, if you're looking for a new pet, adopted!

All dog owners are convinced that their dogs love them as much as they do. But do they really? I know two of these, but the other two were interesting. Take a look and see if your dog really loves you or is, "promiscuous."

October is Pit Bull Awareness Month and although their reputation has gotten somewhat better, they still have a long way to go. There are still many people out there who are afraid of pit bulls and pit bull mixes just based solely on their stereotypes. These dogs who want nothing more than a loving home are euthanized the most, have a harder time finding a home and are not even allowed in some municipalities who have bans against them. So please, take a look at the way that you can help the breed by spreading the word on how cool pit bulls can be.

I, like many other people who care about animal rights, have mixed feelings towards PETA. After this foolish and unfounded decision, my feelings are leaning even more towards the no column. These photos disgust me. How anyone could let innocent animals starve and see their bones sticking out of their bodies is just beyond my understanding. Luckily, these two dogs, named Oscar and Emmy, are lucky and have been recovering in a Chicago shelter. Although Emmy has been lucky enough to find her forever home, Oscar is still waiting. Since this article was posted back in mid September, hopefully that has changed. Still, if you are interested in learning how to learn more about Oscar, you can email a director at the Trio Animal Foundation at bridgid@trioanimalfoundation.org.
